The International Congress on Integrative Medicine and Health will take place at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass in Phoenix, Arizona May 23-26, 2022. The International Congress is convened by the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health.
Scientists, educators, practitioners and policy-makers from the domestic and international communities will come together to highlight scientific advances pertaining to the field of integrative medicine and health. The International Congress will highlight progress in the areas of:
- Original research
- Educational innovations
- Clinical delivery models
- Policy challenges
Abstracts, symposia, panel discussions, workshops and plenary sessions are solicited from the community and selection is based on peer review for quality, timeliness and fit with the overall program. The International Congress will convey the latest information on:
- Safety, efficacy, mechanism of action and cost-effectiveness of individual integrative therapies and lifestyle interventions
- Models of integrative care which are emerging in the US and abroad.
More than 1,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, and trainees from around the world are expected to attend. International Congress Organizers welcome individuals from all disciplines and professions engaged in integrative medicine and health to foster the development of new collaborations and to strengthen existing partnerships within the field of integrative healthcare.

Protecting the health and safety of all Congress participants remains our priority. As a science-based organization, the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine & Health continues to follow the guidance of the CDC, state and local health departments. Dr. Yeh is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Director of the NCCIH-funded T32 Research Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and Director of Clinical Research at the Harvard Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. She provides research and career mentoring for T32 research fellows and multiple K23 mentees. Her research focuses on mind-body movement in chronic disease. She also has a NIH K24 award to support her mentoring.

Dr. Dusek has 20+ years experience leading innovative integrative medicine research. As Director of Research at Penny George Institute, he was PI of an NIH R01 grant studying real-world use of integrative therapies for pain relief in hospitalized patients. As Chief Research Officer at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, he conducted clinical trials on yoga-based mindfulness. He is a leader of the BraveNet Practice Based Research Network and PI of BraveNets 5,000 person outpatient study (PRIMIER).

Dr. Adan is the Endowed Connor Chair of Integrative Medicine at UH, and the recipient of the Christopher M. & Sara H. Connor Master Clinician in Integrative Health award. Trained in psychiatry and board-certified in holistic and integrative medicine, Dr. Adan specializes in three areas: stress management, work/life balance and the mind/body/spirit connection. Dr. Adan earned her medical degree from Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, followed by three years of working in the field of family medicine. She became board-certified in psychiatry in 1997. She is Chair of the Academic Consortium of Integrative Medicine and Health.

Dr. Burnett-Zeigler's scholarly work focuses on the role that social determinants of health play in disparities in mental illness and treatment, particularly in the African-American community. In her research, she examines the factors associated with access and engagement in mental health service utilization and uses this data to develop, test and implement acceptable and accessible evidence based interventions in community based settings. She is an advocate for eliminating mental illness stigma and assuring that all individuals have access to high-quality, evidence based mental health care.

Maria Chao, DrPH, MPA, is an UCSF Associate Professor of Medicine and the Associate Director of Research and the Associate Director for Health Equity and Diversity at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Health. Dr. Chaos overarching research goal is to investigate how complementary and integrative medicine can advance health equity. Her current program of research focuses on non-pharmacologic approaches to improve quality of life among diverse and underserved populations managing chronic conditions. Dr. Chao is committed to building pipelines to improve diversity in the integrative medicine workforce and serves as director and mentor in various research training programs.

In 2007, Dr. Cotton was awarded a K23 career development award by the National Institutes of Health to examine the role of spiritual coping and health-related quality of life in adolescents with a chronic illness. Frederick (Rick) Hecht is Research Director of the UCSF Osher Center, Professor of Medicine at UCSF, and Osher Foundation Endowed Chair for Research in Integrative Medicine. He is trained in internal medicine, HIV medicine, and clinical epidemiology. His research focuses on rigorous testing of lifestyle interventions and the health effects of mind-body interventions. He is the author of over 250 peer-reviewed articles, and has been the principal investigator of 20 NIH grants. He has played a variety of leadership roles in the field of integrative medicine research, including serving as Chair of the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health.

Since January 2021, Dr. Cramer is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (JACM). Emmeline Edwards Director, Division of Extramural Research, National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), NIH The logic of science and math, a love of organic chemistry, and committed mentors all drew Emmeline Edwards, PhD, into neuroscience. Dr. Edwards now brings her passion for neuroscience and dedication to scientific rigor to the NCCIH/NIH, overseeing a broad portfolio of complementary and integrative health research. She also guides the Centers growing interest in disease prevention, focusing especially on emotional well-being and arts-based therapies. In developing NCCIHs scientific programs, Dr. Edwards oversees initiatives and conferences that connect diverse communities and identify research gaps for future investments. As a co-chair of the NIH Music and Health Working Group, she helps to galvanize and share evidence-based research exploring the role of creative arts in health practices and policies. Prior to joining NIH, Dr. Edwards was associate professor of Pharmacology and Neuroscience at the University of Maryland, where she developed a genetic model of depression. She also chairs World Women in Neuroscience, an international mentoring and networking group.

Biography Leigh Frame, PhD, MHS
Dr. Leigh A. Frame brings nutrition and immunity together through clinical, translational research. Dr. Frames T-shaped expertise in health, wellness, science, and medicine were developed through her wide-ranging experience in biomedical research (from wet bench to clinical research) and overseeing research and education programs. Dr. Frame is working to build a GW Integrative Medicine research program while directing the graduate education programs and the Office of Integrative Medicine and Health. Her interests include the role of the microbiome and nutrition in health, the consequences of malnutrition in obesity, vitamin D as an immune modulatory hormone, research ethics, and social media. While working at the Johns Hopkins Center for Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Frame earned her PhD in Human Nutrition from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and also received a Master of Health Science in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology from the same school.

Biography Ricardo Ghelman
Dr Ricardo Ghelman is the Chair of the Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health (CABSIN), member of the executive board of the TCIM Virtual Health Library of the TCIM Americas Network (PAHO/WHO) and and director of the Instituto Ghelman Medicina Integrativa in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He graduated medicine at UFRJ in 1986, studied pediatric oncology and hematology at UNICAMP in 1991. Since the beginning of college he researched complementary health practices, having completed his training at the Brazilian Association of Anthroposophical Medicine in 1990. In addition to being a pediatrician, GP and family physician, he has a Masters Degree in embriology and anatomy from USP in 1998, doctorate in reproductive toxicology and cancer immunology in 2003 and post doctorate in Neuroscience, in the area of Pain and Anthroposophic Medicine in 2018 at Escola Paulista de Medicina, UNIFESP. Since 2018 he has also been a member of the research staff at the Faculty of Medicine at USP in the area of integrative and complementary practices in pediatric health, oncology and phytotherapy.

Dr. Victoria Maizes is Executive Director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and a Professor of Medicine, Family Medicine and Public Health at The University of Arizona. Internationally recognized as a leader in integrative medicine, Dr. Maizes is committed to helping individuals live healthier lives and pioneering change efforts that solve US health care system challenges. Together with the team at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine Center she has created and implemented national educational programs that have reached thousands of health professionals and members of the public. Dr. Maizes graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University, received her MD from the University of California, San Francisco, completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and her Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. A highly sought-after speaker, Dr. Maizes lectures worldwide to academic and community audiences on integrative medical education, women's health, integrative pain management, healthy aging, nutrition, environmental issues, and cancer. She is the co-editor of the Oxford University textbook Integrative Womens Health (2010 and 2015) and the author of Be Fruitful: The Essential Guide to Maximizing Fertility and Giving Birth to a Healthy Child (Scribner 2013). Eric J. Roseen, DC, MSc is an assistant professor of family medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and director of the Program for Integrative Medicine and Health Disparities at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Roseens research is focused on the effectiveness of nonpharmacologic therapies for low back pain and implementation of effective pain treatments in low-income communities. He is a member of the Dissemination and Implementation Task force of the American Congress of Rehabilitative Medicine. Dr. Roseen received his DC degree from the University of Western and an MSc degree in epidemiology from the Boston University School of Public Health.

Dr. Soriano is an Integrative Medicine leader, educator, speaker and consultant. She is passionate about re-imagining health-related paradigms and bringing to life new healthcare structures that support greater equity and deeper healing and wellbeing among individuals and collectives. Dr. Soriano is an active member of the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health (ACIMH) as well as the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM). At the AIHM she serves a founding member of the Black, Indigenous and People of Color Committee and serves as a Board Member for the Academy's Board of Directors. Shes a Georgetown University School of Medicine Mind Body Medicine and Creating Caring Communities group facilitator. Terri and teammates provide interactive culinary nutrition workshops for Integrative and Health Sciences Graduate Students, medical students in the Physician Wellbeing elective and HU residents. As a Wellbeing Champion, Terri leads several initiatives throughout the health system. Megan Voss, DNP, RN, is an integrative nurse clinician and educator. She obtained her doctorate from the University of Minnesota in 2013 with a focus in integrative health and healing. Dr. Voss has been practicing integrative nursing in the areas of hematology, oncology, and blood and marrow transplant her entire career. She has experience working with both adults and children to palliate symptoms during and after cancer treatment. Dr. Voss has additional training and interest in the areas of survivorship and mental health in young adults. She teaches both in the Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing as well as in the School of Nursing at the University of Minnesota.

Ms. Whitehead is the National Program Lead for the Integrative Health in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Patient Centered Care & Cultural Transformation. In this role Ms. Whitehead leads development of programs and policies for integrative health implementation across VA. Alison is on the Board of Directors of the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health (ACIMH) and the immediate past Chair of the ACIMH Policy Working Group. In addition, she is a yoga therapist and a personal trainer.

Her research interests include integrative oncology, nursing, interprofessional health care, developing new treatment options and multi-modal methodology.

Biography Anne Weisman
Dr. Anne Weisman is the Director of Wellness & Integrative Medicine with the UNLV School of Medicine. She developed wellness and integrative medicine curriculum and workshops for the medical students, faculty and residents. Dr. Weisman earned her B.A., M.P.H. and Ph.D. degrees from University of Nevada Las Vegas. She spent 13 years caring for people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as volunteering and working in hospice. Dr. Weisman trained and certified with the Center for Mind Body Medicine and uses many of these modalities and approaches in her work at Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV & throughout the community. She has taught Mind Body Medicine in the coroners office, with police, fire, first responders and in elementary schools.

Lauren Grossman, a physician with 30 years of experience, believes that each person defines health and wellness differently and begins their journey from a unique place. She partners with each patient to devise a recipe for a healthier and happier life. She began her own journey in health as a child of a produce grower, where every family meal was graced with fresh fruits and vegetables. After graduating from the Leeds School of Business at CU Boulder with a bachelors degree in Finance, she attended the Harvard School of Public Health and obtained a masters in Health Policy and Management. After several years in health care consulting and at foundations, she made a priority of promoting health one person at a time and earned her medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. She has spent most of her career caring for the sickest patients as a board certified emergency medicine physician. In 2015, Dr. Grossman completed Dr. Andrew Weils two-year fellowship at The Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona and is now board certified in Integrative Medicine. She is passionate about nutrition and health and has spent time studying at The Culinary Institute of America. Now preventing illness and promoting wellness are becoming the focus of her work. Her proudest professional moment came when she was awarded the Outstanding Teaching Award by the residents at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
